The Belle Isle Casino

Over many years there has been much confusion about one of Belle Isle's many institutions: the Casino. this is not a gambling casino, but uses that old sense of the phrase, an area "public entertainments." This Casino has been used for this purpose since the original structure was built-in the 1880s, in the role of a gathering area for Detroiters for generations.

The first building to be called the Casino was built-in 1887, as Belle Isle was being turned into a municipal park. It was constructed to support events, bazaars, and things of that nature, which its successor was designed to do too. The original building burnt down in early 1900s.

The original building was replaced in 1907 using a building developed by the firm of Van Leyen and Schilling. This building has continued to offer its function successfully for well over 10 years now, check here and its future seems to become secure well in to the future, inspite of the problems that Belle Isle has received in recent years.
